A Swindler

A man was sick, so sick that he swore to the gods that if the gods would let him recover, he would give a hundred oxen to the gods. The gods wanted to see if he could keep his promise, and soon restored him to health. As a matter of fact, he had no oxen at all, so he made a hundred calves of fat and laid them on the altar, saying, "Witness, O God, that I have kept my oath." The gods decided to teach him a lesson and sent him into a dream in which he was sent to the sea where he could receive a hundred pieces of silver. The next day, he ran happily to the seaside, but fell into the hands of a band of robbers. The robbers seized him, carried him away, and sold him as a slave for exactly one hundred talers.
Those who don't keep their word will be punished.
